Get to Work!

I am adding a new series to the blog entitled Get to Work!  I used to spend way too much time on Pinterest trying to come up with outfit ideas for work.  These days I am drawn to more basic pieces that I can mix and match instead of the trendier pieces I used to go for in my 20s.

A few years ago I decided to clean out my closet and take inventory of all my clothes.  I got rid of anything I hadn’t worn in a year.  I organized my closet and made a list of everything.  Since then I have compiled a list (in a small notebook I keep in my nightstand) of outfits combinations using the clothes I have.  This has really worked well for me!  On the days when I get ready for work and don’t know what to wear, all I have to do is flip through my little book until I see something that sounds good.  As an example, see the purple skirt in the first photo below?  I was able to come up with several “purple skirt” outfits.

The Get to Work posts will vary.  I might show a week’s worth of work outfits and other times it might be something like “5 ways to wear black pants.”  I hope this will be helpful to you.  I have TONS of outfits to share!

Get to Work Week 1 blog

Day 1:  Banana Republic striped shirt, J.Crew pencil skirt, Zara blazer, Coach heels, J.Crew clutch

Day 2:  Old Navy Sweater, J.Crew pants (similar), Loft leopard heels, Michael Kors watch

Day 3: Ann Taylor dress, Coach heels

Day 4:  Loft shell, Ann Taylor pencil skirt (on major sale!), Coach heels

Day 5:  Ann Taylor button-up, Ann Taylor pants (similar), Loft boyfriend cardigan, Sam Edelman loafers (sold out; similar here).

A note about tights:   I have spent years searching for good pantyhose.  I randomly bought different brands, usually at a medium price point, and no matter what kind I bought, they’d sprout runs within a few wears.  So frustrating.  I finally found two brands that I really like.  They are both on the expensive side, but they last.  My favorite is the Wolford brand and runner up is Pretty Polly 10 Denier Gloss Tight.   The Pretty Polly’s are less expensive, but they are noticeably thinner than the Wolfords.  I really like both!
